Medics For Rare Disease – New Year, New Strategy
9th January 2025 Medics4RareDiseases is evolving. We are excited to announce a refresh of our strategy, a relaunch of our branding and even a new name!
The charity has grown beyond our highest expectations over the last five years. With this in mind the team spent much of the last year working alongside our partners, Emotive, to ensure we are harnessing that growth to its highest potential whilst heading in the best direction for the charity. With this came a complete branding refresh. We updated the charity’s mission and goals to set the scene for a new phase of growth.
What’s in a Name?
After 5 years, the name Medics4RareDiseases is changing to ‘Medics For Rare Disease’. Whilst this may seem like a small change, it is an important one. It marks a vital part of our strategy. By simply omitting the ‘s’ from the word ‘Disease’, we are supporting one of our key pillars, in advocating for a single-discipline approach to rare disease medical education.
‘Defining excellence in rare disease training’
Medics for Rare Disease may be a small charity, but it is making a huge impact! We are proud to work with policy makers during the formation of the Department of Health and Social Care’s UK Rare Diseases Framework and with delivery partners such as Wales RDIG, NHS England and the Genomics Medicine Service to deliver the action plans. We have partnered with medical schools and NHS Foundation Trusts, delivering training to those at the beginning of their medical careers. We have also partnered with GP vocational training schemes (GP VTS) across the country and trained paediatricians in specialist centres such as, GOSH and Evelina. With all this experience in mind, we’re proud to say that Medics for Rare Disease is ‘defining excellence in rare disease training’.
The Strategy
- Advocacy: Advocating for a single-discipline approach to rare disease education for all medical professionals
- Training: Defining excellence in rare disease medical training in the UK
- Networking: Building a network of Ambassadors that expands the reach of Rare Disease 101 training globalls.
Medics For Rare Disease has a vision of ‘healthcare equity for all’. The charity’s mission is ‘to shape a medical profession that can provide people living with rare conditions a timely diagnosis and excellent care.’ This will be achieved by work streams on focusing on three key pillars:
